Wii secret slot picture
A few companies received an E3 CD from Nintendo with some info about Wii. On the cover of the CD is a Wii console with one of the secret slots open. It’s a very vague picture but it looks like there is an SD Card Reader behind the flap and something that looks like an eye. There were gossips that Wii would get a built in camera so who knows…

That’s kinda funny, because there were some big rumours a while back about the Wii taking SD cards and producing some ridiculously large ones (upwards of 2g), and that the Wii came with a camera that would be used to take your picture for Wii sports and other games, as well as online play. Interesting, because these rumours were all packed together from one source, but pretty well regarded them as false.

My guess would be you have it backwards the slot is for DS cards not for SD. I also heard a rumor about the camera being incorporated into the consol, so there will be face recognition technology and the ablility to scan your own face into the game. WEBCHAT!!

Maybe Nintendo will come out with a online multiplayer Halo type thing and you get a card in the mail with your info on it and then you insert it and it logs you in…….I don’t why but that seemed logical.

My guess is that it’s a camera which can display its view of you, and the room you are in, and do some augmented reality tricks to paint on you and/or your environment. It would be a way to put you inside a game, dressed up in whatever the game wanted you to be wearing. Or it could be a way of allowing you to virtually game in any room the Wii was located in.

Maybe it isn’t a camera at all but mabye it is a jack for a microphone. Mario Party 7 for the gamecube uses a microphone…maybe because it wouldn’t always be used the jack is hidden away under the flap.

its for SD cards that was reveald long ago, it has nothing to do with ds, since not only is ds wireless adn wouldnt need to connect to anything, but but nintendo isnt going to let you play ds games on the system cause then they would lose ds sales.

It’s been confirmed that the flap contains an SD card slot for storage expansion, but there’s room for the last hardware surprise. A camera it might be, but this pic is definitely a poor photoshop job.

Possibly a reader, it could be the Wii’s own version of e-reader? Buy little one use coin/cards to be scanned by the wii, and old retro games can be stored in the system or on the sd cards? Thats my guess.

if this ISNT photoshopped, then i would say the center slot is the confirmed SD slot (idk, i guess it COULD incorporate DS games somehow), i would guess that the smaller slot on the bottom is a USB port, that could be used for bunches of different things … and the lil circle up top … who knows, camera is as good a guess as any other. Either way, i’m sure Nintendo wants us to be speculating and guess and gossiping about it, that’s why they haven’t revealed everything yet. They’re smart like that.

Lol, that is actually the truth. I know its crazy, but that is what it is. I did some researching, and yes, it is a camera, the camera takes a picture, built in software remakes your face in whatever style the game is, and plants your image on your character, it also can take your entire body and do the same. Absolutely amazing, truly the revelution in gaming is here, Nintendo, I commend you on your neverending faith in gamers, and your creativity, and most of all you philosophy on how games should be. Thank you very much, your consoles have changed my life, and one look at the Wii tells me they will continue to for a very long time.

seriously, isn’t it obvious? its a camera until further notice, and why would it be a headphone jack when its not portable? u’d be be standing in a room praying to God that u don’t tug on the headphones and knock over the Wii while you’re moving around and playing Wii Sports… it wouldn’t make any sense to have a headphone jack when the whole point of the Wii is to take u into the game without anything holding you down

A camera would make sense, as remeber the console is slanted upwards for a reason, and it seems that reason is for the ease on inserting and ejecting discs, however it would also make sense for the camera.

projector. its angled for a reason, and that reason is to project your game to a reasonable height on the wall. the stand would make sense as being a battery to power the system. also with the systems small size and such, the wii is said by nintendo to have minimum power consumption. instead of having a camera built into the system to take your online ID photo, as some people said, it would be cheaper for nintendo to have you upload it to some website, and then put it onto the system through the opera web browser. everyone has a digital camera, why shouldnt nintendo just have you use that.
theres no way that the eye is going to be a camera. i think the idea about it being a magnet to keep the cover closed is more likely

say you want to take it somewhere? or for connecting multiple wiis wirelessly in the same room so that you can play against a friend in a LAN type of game. but the nintendo wii site does say that the wii has minimum power consumption, and if the wii’s stand is a power source and the eye is a projector, then this would fit in.

the most logical explaination would be that it is a camera- although not as techy as the eye toy. think of it as nintendo’s way of incorporating expensive tech (digital cameras) into inexpensive consoles (think of how the ps2 had dvd playback). it would give gamers a face in certain games, and would be useful in establishing an online avatar (should one be used).
it cant be a projector, as motion sensing isnt possible on a wall.

Actually, that “camera” is the sync button for the wii remote being covered. Nintendo probably did this to keep their multiplayer remote system secret.
