The poll revealed that Zeraora, an Electric-type Legendary Pokémon, was voted as the favorite among Japanese fans. It received 12.2% of all votes casted! Other popular favorites include Mimikyu, Greninja, Tapu Koko (an Electric/Fairy-type Legendary Pokémon) and Drampa (a Normal/Dragon-type Pokémon). These Pokemon garnered 9.7%, 8.9%, 7.6% and 5.7% of all votes respectively.
What Makes These Pokémon so Popular?
Many people think that Zeraora’s popularity comes from its electric type attacks and its unique backstory across both Gen Scarlet and Violet games, where it is said to be an ancient electric animal brought back to life by technology. Mimikyu’s popularity could be explained by its ability to draw power from Pikachu, as well as its strong sense of individuality among other Pokemon.
Greninja is a fan favorite because of its powerful special moves like Hydro Pump and Ice Beam, which many players find useful in battle situations. Tapu Koko also has a very interesting backstory which makes it stand out amongst other Pokemon, having been said to guard different islands across both Gen Scarlet and Violet games.
