Nintendo has just announced that a classic NES title, Gimmick, will be released later this year. Fans of the original game will no doubt be ecstatic to have a chance to play the beloved classic again, and the news comes as a welcome surprise for those who have been missing out on some of the older classic games. Gimmick was originally released by Sunsoft in 1992 for Nintendo’s Famicom system. The game was subsequently ported to several other systems over the years, includingDOS, Apple IIgs and PC-8801. The game starred Mr. Gottsu, an orange grove farmer who must save his daughter from an evil wizard by collecting magical spheres in each level.
The game itself was praised for its unique gameplay as well as for its excellent sound design, which many considered innovative at the time. It was often compared favorably against other platforming titles such as Super Mario Bros., Mega Man 2 and Metroid.
