Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen is a fan-favorite role-playing game that was originally released in 2013, developed by Capcom and released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. With its unique, open world gameplay and storyline, it has become one of the best JRPGs of all time. Players take on the role of an ‘Arisen’, a powerful hero with the ability to slay dragons. In this installment, they must set out to save the kingdom of Gransys from a catastrophic dragon invasion. This review will assess Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen’s storyline, graphics and visuals, character development, audio design and soundtrack, combat and gameplay mechanics.
Storyline
The story follows the main protagonist as they take on their journey to save Gransys from an invasion by powerful dragons. As with most RPGs, players are presented with choices throughout their adventure that will impact how the story unfolds. For instance, when players are presented with two different sides in a conflict scenario, each option may lead to different outcomes depending on which side you choose. Each choice comes with both pros and cons that ultimately shape how your story progresses. Additionally, the game incorporates various plot twists that often leave players guessing as to what may happen next.
What sets Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen apart from other RPGs is its setting; while most games tend to focus solely on saving mankind from some form of evil or apocalypse-level event like in many popular JRPGs such as Final Fantasy VII or Breath of Fire III; this title focuses more heavily on characters’ motives within their own journeys – something not often seen in contemporary titles.
Graphics & Visual Design
Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen offers some truly stunning visuals for a Nintendo Switch title – even if it is an HD remaster –
