History of Kirby
Kirby first appeared in April 1992 in the game Kirby’s Dream Land, developed by Masahiro Sakurai for the Game Boy. In this title he is depicted as a pink puffball with eyes and a mouth, who lives in Dream Land on the planet Popstar. He is able to inhale and swallow objects or exhale them as stars, and has many other power-ups throughout his games. Since his debut, Kirby has gone on to star in more than 20 titles – including several spin-offs – that have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
The character has also gone beyond video games into other forms of media such as an anime series, comic books, and even merchandise collections. Many of these products feature unique designs inspired by the iconic character. There are also various collaborations between Nintendo and other companies to create products such as plush toys or apparel that feature Kirby.
