
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Atlus for the Nintendo Switch. The game is a sequel to the 2012 fighting game Persona 4 Arena and features characters from both Persona 3 and 4. Players take control of one of seventeen characters and battle against each other using their unique movesets and abilities. Each character has their own story mode which fleshes out their backstory, motivations, and relationships with other characters. Players can form teams of up to three characters and compete against opponents in various modes such as Story, Arcade, Network, Versus, Score Attack, Training, Spectate, Challenge Tower, Character Creation, Gallery, and more.
Gameplay
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax features an accessible yet deep combat system that allows players to master its mechanics quickly. Each character has light and heavy attacks as well as special moves that can be used for combos or defense. Additionally each character possess a Persona which grants them access to powerful attacks or support abilities. Battles take place on a multi-level stage where positioning can be crucial for success.
The Story Mode returns in Ultimax along with the new Shadow Type system which allows players to customize their character’s stats & battle style based off of certain preferences. It also adds two new playable characters: Sho Minazuki & Junpei Iori. Additionally there are numerous tweaks from the original game such as improved netcode for online play or rebalanced battles.
