The Nintendo Switch game Transformers Battlegrounds was released in 2020 and quickly became a fan favorite. The game takes players on a thrilling adventure through the world of the iconic Transformers robots in a battle to save Earth from an onslaught of Decepticons. Developed by indie studio Coatsink and published by Outright Games, Transformers Battlegrounds is a challenging and unique tactical shooter that requires strategic thinking, puzzle-solving skills, and an adept ability to use your surroundings to your advantage. With Optimus Prime gone missing after his last mission to find Energon-rich sources on other planets outside of Earth, the remaining Autobots take up arms against Megatron’s minions in an attempt to save humanity from extinction.
Though standard for its genre, the story still provides enough originality to keep players invested during their journey through its 8 levels. The unique blend between puzzle-based gameplay objectives as well as strategically maneuvering your squadmates on battlefields helps add deeper complexity to the narrative and further develop character arcs along with it.
