Ys Origin is a critically acclaimed action RPG developed and published by Nihon Falcom. The game was first released in 2006 for Japanese computers before being re-released on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch in 2020. It tells the story of two playable characters, Yunica Tovah and Hugo Fact, as they explore the ancient world of Ys in their quest to save it from an invading demonic force. In this review, I will discuss Ys Origin’s stellar storyline, its engaging combat system, and its impressive technical performance on the Nintendo Switch.
The story of Ys Origin takes place 700 years before the events of the original Ys games. The player takes control of one of two characters: Yunica Tovah or Hugo Fact. Both characters are trying to reach the summit of Darm Tower to save their home from an invasion by demons from another world. Along their journey, they uncover secrets about the tower’s origin and discover how they must save Ys from destruction.
The narrative is an absorbing tale filled with twists and turns that still manages to remain accessible for both long-time fans of the series and newcomers alike. It also contains plenty of exciting boss battles and memorable moments that make for a satisfying adventure overall.
Ys Origin features an exciting combat system that is easy to learn but difficult to master. Players have access to over 20 different weapons as they make their way through Darm Tower, each with its own unique attack patterns that can be used against enemies in real time. Additionally, there are magical spells which can be used against tougher foes as well as special abilities which can give you an edge in battle.
The combat system also encourages players to experiment with different strategies depending on their playing
